Questions and Answers
Who we are and What we do

 Q. I’m a little confused on exactly what your organization does?

Simply put we provide employment opportunities and direct services to homeless people.

Q. Isn’t it true homeless people don’t want to work?

One of the greatest myths about homeless people is they can’t or will not hold a job. In fact a majority are presently employed by day labor agencies. At the end of the day you earn barely enough to buy something to eat and certainly don’t have enough to pay rent. Our goal is to move these people into higher paying positions so they become self-sufficient.

Q.    Is your organization funded with tax dollars?

No! We are funded primarily by individual donations. Even something as small as $25 or $50 goes a long way. On our website we offer local businesses and corporations sponsorship opportunities. Additionally the organization asks its members to re-invest a small portion of their wages. This voluntary contribution insures we are able to develop employment opportunities on a full time basis.
In the future if we do not continue to enjoy private support we may have to ask for tax dollars.

Q.    Your organization states that “It’s good business to end homelessness;” Can you explain what you mean by that?

Last year, Clark County spent $25 million on homeless services and reduced the population by about 10%. It stands to reason that in order to eliminate homelessness the Commissioners would have to spend $250 million, cross their fingers and hope no one else becomes homeless. This hope and wish method is exemplified by the Commissioners funding of a day shelter at the tune of thousands of dollars where people simply sit around and watch TV. This type of wish and hope methodology in addressing homelessness will only result in higher taxes and fees which can only negatively affect present and future business ventures. As such it becomes a good business decision to invest in solutions like ours that are designed to end homelessness and not perpetuate it.

Q.    Why should I consider supporting your organization?

We are solution based. Unlike other well meaning people we see the problem and work immediately to solve it. For a long time our activity was centered primarily with sharing food with approximately 500 homeless people. We could still maintain that as our sole activity. Recently though we realized that our efforts have no long range impact on the ever growing crises of homelessness. Our solution is to take a portion of existing resources and apply it to creating economic opportunity for this population. This solution is beneficial for our organization in particular and the community in general, in that people now have the resources to attain their own food and shelter.

Q.    Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes it is. Our parent organization Father Flannagan is a 501 3(c)

 Q.    How do I make a donation?

We make it really easy. Right now you can make a donation on-line on this website. If you prefer you can contact Gail Sacco at (702) 355-2764 to find out where you can send your donation and other ways you can help.
